Does this Phantom Blue Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 7 82JW0012US 15-inch gaming laptop really have everything in one? Let’s discover the answer here.
To begin with, the Lenovo Legion 5 family doesn’t disappoint. After the 2020 model became the best seller gaming laptop, this year the Legion 5 comes with updated internals inside and is also thinner in terms of form factor. Meet the phantom blue 82JW0012US model.

The whole package of this unit for the price you get is worth considering. The hardware under the hood and the professional look with its simple chassis make it so easy to disguise itself in your office very well. It just does not have that usual gaming laptop look, which I appreciate.

A Powerful Package
Now, it’s time to talk about the important internals from a gamer standpoint, the CPU, Graphics, and RAM.
A Cezanne Gen AMD Ryzen 7
Inside this phantom blue Lenovo Legion 5 82JW0012US laptop you will get the 2021 AMD’s CPU, which goes under the name, Ryzen 7 5800H processor. It’s an 8-Cores/16-Threads CPU chip that gives a 31% performance boost in the Cinebench R20 Multi-Core benchmark when compared with its predecessor, the R7 4800H. For a processor’s performance, this is a significant increase.

Aside from that, this processor also beats a few 10th Gen of Intel’s i7 and i9 CPUs, like the i9-10980HK, i7-10875H, and i7-10870H. For its price, this is a quite powerful processor.

And what is really impressive, how good the integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 Graphics card of this CPU can perform. This CPU’s graphics chip can easily crush the older games like F1 2021, Far Cry 5, Dot A Reborn, The Witcher 3, etc. And with the respectable framerates!
A Sweet Graphics Chip
We have just discussed the integrated Graphics card that comes with the CPU alone. Now, from a gamer standpoint, we need to talk about the dedicated Graphics card, because it is a crucial specification of a gaming laptop. This 82JW0012US comes with the sweet NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU. The older model, which is the 81LK00HDUS can be found on this page, with the older GPU.
Now, there are of course stronger laptops with stronger Graphics cards. But this RTX 3050 Ti is capable to handle daily video editing, even rendering 4K videos, and playing games at 1080p. Additionally, this GPU comes with the Ray-Tracing and DLSS features, which will be able to play future Ray-Tracing-supported games. If you are a photographer or content creator who is usually on the go, you will not be disappointed.

Most of all, this GPU, coupled with the new AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800H, your gaming laptop can deliver expected performance and framerates in advanced-daily computing and gaming. For the price, this GPU is a perfectly fine feature.
Furthermore, you can also use the included Lenovo Vantage software to get extra performance.
An Ideal Amount of RAM
As far as the memory is concerned, this Lenovo Legion 5 15 R7 5800H model has factory-installed 16 GB RAM which runs at 3200 MHz.
This is more than the ideal amount of memory for a portable gaming laptop without being bothered to crack it up for an upgrade.
An 8 GB of RAM capacity is in fact the minimum limit for productivity jobs and gaming. And our guy has double the RAM, the 16 GB. Another good news about the memory, this laptop supports up to 32GB RAM upgrade when necessary.
Durable SSD
We haven’t finished yet mentioning everything that makes this laptop a capable performer. A laptop can’t perform fast without SSD storage.
This Lenovo Legion 5 82JW0012US unit packs 512GB SSD rather than 250GB in its system. Game time, install time, boot time, wake-up time, load time, you name it, this storage drive is lightning fast! This is very helpful if you run a virtual machine as booting time can be cut down to seconds.
Like the memory, the SSD storage can also be upgraded down the road.
Other Stuff You’ll Like
Thinking about the price of this unit, there is a few more stuff that adds flashiness to this laptop that you will like.
Intelligent Thermal System
For the selling price category, the thermal solution on this machine belongs to the best in its class. It is not as silent as those non-gaming laptops, but it won’t generate jet-alike fan noises. This leads to a better user gaming experience, which also means helping to keep the performance more consistent.
Lenovo’s Vantage software also has options that can be set up to Automatic so the laptop will adjust its performance while you are gaming on autopilot.
Battery Life isn’t Bad
Let’s be honest here, all gaming laptops as a whole have almost similar weak points, which is their battery life. This laptop is no exception, it is not an Ultrabook. As the primary goal, gaming devices are designed with performance., and portability. For this reason, battery life is expected to last 5-6 hours for browsing, streaming, and gaming. For light use only, you can expect about 8-9 hours. This is actually more than average compared with other gaming laptops at this price.
To release all of its capability, you will probably want to plug in your laptop whenever you game.
Solid 4-Zones RGB Keyboard
One of the biggest selling features of this 82JW0012US Lenovo Legion 5 is its awesome keyboard. Despite being a 15-inch unit, it has a full-size backlit keyboard with a separated Number pad and nice arrow keys, which I appreciate.
Other than the keyboard shortcut to fully customize the lighting colors, you can also use the built-in Lenovo Vantage software. There are many configurations for the keyboard’s lighting.

In addition to that, with its 1.5 mm key travel you will love how comfortable the typing experience with this laptop is. Both the keys and the touchpad give fast and solid feedback which is great with this machine.
I/O Ports For Days
There are plenty of ports or I/O interface with this 82JW0012US Lenovo 15-inch gaming laptop. For USB ports, there are 4x USB 3.2 Type-A, and 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports. 2x USB C ports!! I’ve never seen another gaming laptop that has 2x USB C ports in this price category.
There is also a 1x HDMI v2.1 port, 1x Audio jack, and an Ethernet port for a steady internet connection as well.
Both USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C support fast data transfer and DisplayPort v1.4. You can use the USB C on the back to charge your laptop (Power Delivery), but use this option for emergencies because this laptop ships with a 230-watt charger. There is no USB-C Power Delivery that is more than 100 watts at the moment.
Webcam & Speaker
There is a 720 HD built-in webcam on this Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 7 model, which is average for a laptop’s webcam. This means it has decent quality for video chat, Zoom meetings, but nothing more.
For this variant, the webcam privacy shutter is located on the right-hand side next to the USB Type-A port.
There are two downward-firing 2-watt speakers which are clear and loud enough, they are usable. But don’t expect the quality of the speakers from a MacBook Pro.
165Hz Screen Instead of 144Hz
The Lenovo Legion 5 15 82JW0012US gaming laptop is equipped with a diagonally measured anti-glare 15.6″ Full-HD 1080p IPS non-touch display. It has a fast 165Hz refresh rate, 300 nits brightness, 100% sRGB spot-on color accuracy. Go here if you are after a 14-inch non-gamer laptop from Lenovo.

It also supports G-Sync and Free-Sync, and also Dolby Vision. For your eye health care, it has an anti-glare screen coating and DC dimmer technology.
The screen is just excellent for gaming and watching media content.
In short, the screen of this laptop is probably the best highlight, it is a stunning display with those nice specs that are above the average to this day in every way.
Most gaming laptops that are more expensive do not have 100% color accuracy and a 165Hz refresh rate. This is just striking, for this price range, you won’t find a comparable screen on any other gaming laptops.
Should you get it?
I have checked everywhere, by far, this is the most reasonably-priced 15-inch gaming laptop I have found. Other laptops with better specs cost a lot higher.
We also cannot guarantee until when they keep the price in this range, I notice pricing can be absolutely mad. For example, our guy here with its newest specs, higher GPU, newest CPU, is sold a few bucks less than last year’s model with the older CPU and Graphics. Insane!
Our device here also has all of the power of a gaming machine while still looking like a laptop for professionals. It does not look gaudy like most of those gaming notebooks.
So if you want to have a new up-to-date laptop that works great, looks great, consider this one. The other nice features are a bonus, this Lenovo Legion 5 Ryzen 7 82JW0012US has it all.
