Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-59KS GTX 1650 & The Shortfalls

Acer Nitro 5 Gaming Laptop, the AN515-55-59KS GTX 1650 Ti variant review.

Do you care about the value of your money and want to have a gaming laptop? If yes, we think that you really should look at this Acer Nitro 5 GTX 1650 model 15-inch gaming laptop.

On this review page, we are going to take a look at this 700 bucks gaming laptop, on why they make it affordable for everyone. And we will also investigate whether the shortfalls will be our concern or not.

Appearance-wise, Acer principally built this notebook from plastics to lessen the weight. It does not appear to be the most premium-built laptop that costs thousands of dollars but it can play your game effectively and get the other computing jobs done.

You can also easily carry it around in your backpack since it is a 15-inch notebook and weighs approximately only 2.29kg or 5.07 lbs. Considering its capabilities and its power under the hood, this obsidian black AN515-55 Acer Nitro 5 variant is not the heaviest gamer notebooks in the market. For the dimension, it measures only 0.94″ for the height, 14.3″ for the width, and 10″ for the depth. In short, it’s a durable gaming laptop for the price.

Can the CPU handle my games?

This Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55-59KS gaming laptop is rocking the quad-core 10th Gen Intel Core i5-10300H. It’s a good processor for gaming, virtualization, and programming, surely for daily computer tasks as well. This CPU has a good TDP and supports Hyperthreading. It’s great to see this CPU’s features on the device at this price point.

Moreover, this chipset is an upgrade from its predecessor, the 9th Generation Intel i5-9300H. It has a higher base and max turbo frequency, which are at 2.50GHz and 4.50GHz respectively. (2.40GHz – 4.40GHz for the i5-9300H). And let’s not forget that this newer Intel CPU is capable of supporting higher DDR4 memory speed, which is at 2933MHz (vs 2666MHz for the 9th gen i5).

For the most part, higher speed RAM means higher performance.

Here is the CPU benchmark comparison between the two CPUs.

The truth is, before purchasing a new notebook, you will also want to consider other elements or components of the laptop. The performance of a laptop does not solely depend on the CPU only but the whole package. We will find it out soon.

Is 8gb RAM good for gaming?

If you are not heavy gamer, yes, it is good enough. For more hungry power games, you can enjoy playing most games at 1080p with a low setting without issue. As an example, you can play Battlefield 5 at a respectable 88 FPS. It’s a reasonable gaming result for a gaming device at this price.

For games like PUBG, Fortnite, etc, this is where this notebook soars, you can even reach 182 FPS for the Fortnite. With the 144Hz screen refresh rate, these framerates will make your gaming experience more enjoyable.

All in all, the 8GB of memory is good enough for playing most of today’s games without issue. 8GB is regarded by many as the minimum recommendation and the sweet spot of most games. What good about the AN515-55-59KS is, the memory is expandable if needed.

This said, if you are a hardcore gamer, and do not want to open your laptop to expand the memory, then we recommend the notebook that has a minimum of 16GB of memory, such as this one (Helios 300 PH315-53-72XD).

144Hz Screen, I cannot ask for more

The screen is coming in at Full-HD 15.6-inches IPS with a 144Hz refresh rate. A bright screen with a nice viewing angle and resolution, so there is no concern at this point. Furthermore, a 144Hz screen at under 800? It’s unbeatable.

The bezel is thinner than last year’s model, this makes the laptop looks even sleeker, yet you will still find a 720p HD webcam on the top frame of the screen.

Efficient Storage, 256GB SSD

Laptops with SSD storage are known to perform much faster than those that come with HDD. When it comes to transferring files, SSDs are 30 times faster, hence SSDs are also much more expensive than HDDs. SSDs are also more robust, more power-efficient, and perform silently without producing additional heat. This is important on a gaming laptop since they are power-hungry, so any element that can reduce heat production is beneficial.

As to the amount of total storage space, which is 256GB, is the only thing that I wish to be different with this AN515-55-59KS. But I am not looking at a 1-2k notebook either, so can’t complain about this area. Also, it depends on how many games or software you want to install on your PC, the 256 GB should be enough if you don’t install a lot of software.

Additionally, Acer lets us install an M.2 SSD and or another HDD on this laptop. So if upgrading a laptop is not an issue for you, this device is a gem.

Keyboard, and Other Features

There are many other nice features that this AN515-55-59KS Acer Nitro 5 with GTX 1650 Ti has. The backlit keyboard has a full-size keyboard with a numeric pad. For the backlit color, it comes with only one red lighting color, meaning you cannot change it but you can disable or enable it. If it matters to you, we recommend this Acer gaming product with more backlit colors.

The speakers are “good enough”, almost similar to the Helios. Keep in mind, they must sacrifice other areas by keeping its price low, and that is the speakers. But you will likely game with a headphone anyway, so it won’t be a that huge drawback.

What’s more, there is the NitroSense button above the numeric keys that will allow you to control the processor to game even more efficiently. With the CoolBoost feature, you will also able to adjust your cooling fan speed to keep your gaming experience optimal.

How to use the NitroSense feature

In this video below, you will learn how to control your laptop’s features manually.

The Verdict

This machine is the king when it comes to the specifications and the price. From the build quality, performance, screen, and other features, this laptop is effective enough to play all of your games. That is if you don’t want to spend more hundreds of dollars on the more premium devices. If you check the compromises you will make by getting this over the 1k-2k machines, then you won’t be disappointed.
