ASUS TUF FX505DV-ES74 gaming laptop is quite possibly the only laptop you can buy that has NVIDIA RTX 2060 Graphics card at this price when this review was published.
ASUS has been known as a trustworthy manufacturer when it comes to producing laptops, also for gamers. They have the Zephyrus, ROG Strix Scar, and so forth. Those machines are very good performers but more affordable compared to other gamer notebooks on the market.
Is this FX505DV-ES74 different? Let’s find that out in this review.
For the appearance, this notebook is a beautiful looking machine with gamer attributes on it. The model we are reviewing on this page comes with the elegant black color.
Though it is not the smallest device on the market it is quite portable for its category with about 2.3kg for its weight and 25.8mm for the thickness. It is even smaller than its competition.
Surprisingly, you can easily open it with just one hand. I have seen many laptops out there that are claimed to be ultrabooks, yet cannot be opened with just one hand. You can do so with this notebook.
If you have used the Zephyrus before, this TUF FX505DV-ES74 model looks similar, except, this one has a webcam.
The FX505DV version comes with generous crucial specs, like the 16GB of RAM, and the 512GB SSD storage out of the box. These specs paired with Ryzen 7 CPU and the RTX card are really impressive. Especially most notebooks at this price point will offer 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD.
When it comes to performance, since this notebook packs the 2.3GHz AMD Ryzen 7 3750H CPU, this FX505DV-ES74 will be able to perform your games without being overheated. This is because the processor is a 35W TDP chipset which is more energy-efficient than the H series from Intel CPUs (with 45W TDP).
When needed this 4-Cores/8-threads 12nm Zen+ processor also can reach the max. frequency at 4.0GHz. The combination with the NVIDIA RTX GPU is not going to have serious bottlenecks. This will allow your laptop to get more gaming performance.

ASUS TUF FX505DV with RTX 2060
The processor of this FX505DV laptop (R7 3750H) alone comes with onboard dedicated Graphics, which is the AMD Radeon RX VEGA 10. This said, without a dedicated GPU, your laptop is a capable device to play games. With the dedicated RayTracing GPU, you are basically owning the future-proof gaming notebook.
The upcoming AAA gaming titles will perform much better with the RTX GPUs since they have RayTracing features and DLSS. See the difference in the graphics below when you use or not use the RTX Graphics card.
Want the same laptop that has the same CPU and GTX 1660 Ti card? Consider this model (TUF505DU-MB74).
120Hz IPS Screen
The 15.6-inch LED-Backlit display on this notebook is an improvement from the predecessor. Due to being an IPS screen, this laptop has good viewing angles. Having the 120Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time make the screen more than enjoyable to play games, and do your computing routines. The screen has 16:9 aspect ration and 45% NTSC color gamut.
Additionally, the FX505DV-ES74 has the Anti-Glare feature so it prevents us to get eyestrain while gaming for long hours.
Is It Getting Hot?
For the temperature, as it will also happen with all gamer laptops generally, you will feel the warm air blowing out, but it won’t burn you. Though for long gaming sessions, we recommend not to use it on your lap.
When you don’t game or in idle mode, e.g, just doing your school or office work, it performs very quiet and does not generate excessive heat.
The FX505DV-ES74 comes with a 3-cell 48Wh battery, so the battery life is not the best. However, it is not the worst either. For gaming, from a full charge, it will last about 2.5 hours.
This smaller battery makes the laptop itself more lightweight and thin as the battery component of a notebook plays a very important role in its weight.
For lighter computing use, it can reach about 3-4 hours of battery life. This lifecycle of the battery is even better than other laptops. I had a non-gaming laptop that won’t survive for one hour for light computing use only.
This 15.6 ASUS TUF FX505DV-ES74 RTX 2060 gaming laptop is an incredible value at this price. It performs well, RTX GPU, backlit keyboard, ethernet port, and easy to upgrade if you want to. The 120Hz IPS display is also a godsend to me.
Right, you don’t need a device to game that has RTX GPU. But it’s the new generation of NVIDIA Graphics card, meaning this RayTracing GPU is likely to be a basic standard spec of a gamer laptop in the coming years.
And it’s crazy to see an RTX 2060 notebook for about a grand like this FX505DV-ES74.
