✅ Acer Aspire 5 A515-54G-53H6 appearance
Despite being made from plastic, the whole laptop is well built and feels very robust.
The display’s shell is made from aluminum and the rest of the body is made from plastics material.

Actually, the plastic material which can keep this notebook very lightweight at under 4lbs or 2Kg. The 15-inch full-HD and true IPS display make a nice size yet it still maintains the compact form factor from being light and thin enough to carry around or to be your company whenever you are on the go.
Lightweight
Compared to my 2015 MacBook Pro, it is thicker, but it is more lightweight, surprisingly.
Inside the package, you will have the slim laptop, then there are the power adapter and the upgrade kits. The upgrade kits are the bracket and the cable to enable you to upgrade the storage which is a 2.5″ HDD. But you won’t need to do that since this laptop has enough technical specifications to perform well straight out of the box. Read further…
The Acer Aspire 5 A515-54G-53H6 works out of the box since it is very easy to set it up. You need only a few seconds to log in. Opening the screen is easy and smooth, and once it’s opened, it stays in place nicely. It feels like there was a magnet in between because the laptop can be closed smoothly.
Cheapest Laptop with an IPS Screen
Even though it does not have a touchscreen, the screen is an IPS display, which is a huge bonus with this laptop. These days, much more expensive laptops have IPS-Type displays, but this one has the true IPS display. With its full-HD 1080 screen resolution, the object on the screen looks very sharp, bright and has nice colors.
Despite being able to be viewed in 180 degrees, you won’t have the color reduction. In short, it has decent viewing angles. Sure, the screen isn’t as sharp as the MacBook laptops display but you also pay a lot less. For outdoor use, the sunlight won’t kill the brightness but when the sun shines directly on your screen, the color will be washed out.
On the base bottom edge, you will locate the speakers. The speakers can produce a pretty good sound, but it is not the best quality of audio.

Intel i5-10210U Performance
In terms of performance, the A515-54G-53H6 packs the 10th generation of Intel Core i5, the i5-10210U processor, which is newer than the older generations like the 9th or 8th generation.
Decent RAM out of the box
The CPU is paired with 8GB of RAM out of the box, so even if you don’t upgrade this laptop, it will be more than capable to take care of your email, words data processing, and your presentations.
This Intel-Core i5 CPU works smoothly with the operating system which Windows 10. Furthermore, this CPU is a good balance between power efficiency (Battery life) and overall performance.

A515-54G-53H6 MX250 Graphics
The i5-10210U CPU actually comes with the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. But this laptop packs an additional portable GPU, the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 that you can use to play games.
Of course, it won’t play today’s games with the highest settings and frame rates, but it will play most of them with a 720p resolution setting. Thanks to its dedicated graphics. The NVIDIA MX250 GPU will enable you to play your games 200% faster and smoother than its built-in Intel HD Graphics 620.
Games that you can play with the MX250 on this Acer Aspire 5 slim laptop;
Games | Framerates (FPS) |
Black Ops 4, 1080p Low-Medium | 68 |
PUBG | 46 |
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, 900p low setting | 38 |
Rocket League, 1080p Highest setting | 74 |
League of Legends, 1080p | 60 |
Apex Legends, 900p Low setting | 45 |
Overwatch, 1080p Highest setting | 58 |
As you can see this Acer Aspire 5 with MX250 can play less intensive games perfectly, but it is not a gaming laptop. If you are are looking for one, I would purchase the Acer Helios gaming laptop like this one.
SSD Storage
If your previous laptop or computer runs on a traditional hard drive this laptop will make your world different. The included 512GB of Solid Storage Drive (SSD) makes the laptop runs snappy. From power on to the ready to use state, it will take only a few seconds. Opening multiple windows at the same time is a snap!
Furthermore, it has the Fingerprint scanner feature, you’ll just need to touch it to log in from a sleeping state.
For the keyboard, I respect Acer for including the Numpad and the backlit keyboard. The keys and the trackpad are large and are quite responsive, so you’ll enjoy using it.

The backlit is a generous feature that you will be thankful for when you are typing a room that has poor light conditions.
A515-54G-53H6 Ports
There is also a robust array of ports. This A515-54G-53H6 comes with 1x USB-C, 2x USB 3, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack. There is also an RJ45 ethernet port, which I am really thankful for. Most laptops at this price do not include an ethernet port, but this one does.
Battery Life
This laptop’s battery life is also better than the average. Out of full charge, you can get 10 hours with light computer use such as browsing the internet only. If you watch movies or videos, you can get 7 hours easily. For intensive gaming, you will get decent 4-5 hours of battery life.

Summary
This Acer Aspire 5 with MX250 is the cheapest laptop that has a true IPS screen and NVIDIA GPU. It is also thin and light, yet it packs a dedicated Graphics card which you can use for both gaming and daily computing use. NVIDIA MX250 is an economical GPU to play computer games.
