How does this A515-55G-57H8 Look?

Basically, this laptop will fit into your criteria if you are looking for a 15.6″ light and thin laptop that has an attractive and sturdy look for this price tag.
Design, Dimension
This Acer Aspire 5 with i5-1035G1 model looks very sleek, simple, but also very good looking. At a glance, it looks like a MacBook! The chassis has an attractive metal-look and matte texture that makes the laptop looks premium and it is also smudge-free.
The overall build quality is pretty sturdy, and there isn’t noticeable flex on the keyboard deck. And being only 0.71 inches thin, and weighs only 4.19 lbs you can lift this notebook with only one hand. And surprisingly, it does not flex, which is quite impressive.
For the dimension, it is 14.3 x 9.9 x 0.71 inches.
IPS Display Full HD
✅ Acer Aspire 5 A515-55G-57H8 features a 15.6″ ComfyView IPS non-touch display with a full-HD 1920×1080 screen resolution. And because of this, the viewing angle on this laptop is quite excellent. The brightness is quite decent for indoor and outdoor use, and the color reproduction on the screen is pretty good.
Due to its thin bezel frames, the screen is very comfortable to use, especially for a laptop at this selling price.
Backlight Keboard!
The keyboard of this Acer Aspire 5 is a full-size keyboard and has a white backlit color that you can adjust to your liking. Although it does not have a Fingerprint reader, the keys are well spaced and are very comfortable to type on.
For an Aspire 5 that has a Fingerprint reader, check out the A515-54-59W2.
The one-tone white backlit combined with the black keys make the backlighting function on the keyboard more effective, and bright. You can easily locate your keys whenever you work in the darker rooms.
Considering the cost of this laptop, the backlit keyboard is a big plus.
✅ How to turn on the backlit on the keyboard?
Press the F8 Function key on the top.
A515-55G-57H8’s Peripherals
For the peripherals and connectivity, this laptop has a very nice variety of ports. There is a Gigabit Ethernet port, which is really the highlight of this laptop’s connectivity since most of the light and thin laptops out there do not include one (also the more expensive notebooks).
The advantage of having the ethernet port in your portable laptop is that you won’t worry about the cut-off Wi-Fi connection for your remote work or updating the Windows OS.

Other than the RJ-45 port, there are 1x HDMI, 2x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x USB 2.0 port, and 1x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C. So you’ll be getting 4 total of USB ports!
There is no optical drive, but that is what makes this laptop so light, and who would need that clunky CD drive on a portable laptop these days. With its USB ports or the HDMI port, you can connect anything to this laptop without issue.
Quick Video Review
Acer Aspire 5 A515-55G-57H8: Performance
In terms of performance, this budget laptop shines with its 10th generation of Intel i5 4-cores CPU, the i5-1035G1. This processor offers 4-Cores and 8-Threads and is also built based on 10nm lithography which is more efficient and faster than the processors that are produced in the 12 nm manufacturing process.
The 4-C/8-T CPU is more than capable to runs your daily workloads like web browsing, office work, Zoom video conference (since it has an HD webcam), light photo or video editing, watching 4K videos, and other productivity works.
The benchmark of the CPU also shows how it outperforms the 8th gen of Intel i7 CPU.

Furthermore, out of the box, this Acer Aspire 5 A515-55G-57H8 comes with proper 512GB SSD rather than 256GB and 8GB of RAM instead of 4GB.
What is more impressive is the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX350 Graphics inside. This said, other than the workloads that I mentioned above, this dedicated GPU will also enable you to do more than casual gaming in this budget laptop, which is quite impressive, once again.
If you want to get the similar unit that has older GPU but more affordable, check out this Acer Aspire 5 model with its MX250 Graphics.
Can you game with A515-55G-57H8 ?
Yes, absolutely. Although this slim notebook isn’t a gaming laptop, you can run a few games on it.
For an entry-level gaming laptop, we recommend one of these;
- Acer Nitro 5 with GTX 1650 GPU (AN515-54-5812)
- Acer Nitro 5 with RTX 2060 (AN515-54-728C)
- Helios 300 with RTX 2060 (Acer PH315-53-72XD)
For less demanding PC games like Sims 4, Minecraft, AoE, and other older ones are playable by only using its integrated UHD Graphics, at quite stable framerates. And because it has a dedicated graphics, the NVIDIA GeForce MX 350, you will be able to play some of the modern games, like the CS GO, Fortnite, GTA 5 at lower and moderate settings.
Is it a perfect device?
No, but for this price range, you will be getting a well-performing notebook and more. The USB-C port, backlit keyboard, proper SSD, and RAM, as well as the IPS full-HD display.
Also, the Gigabit Ethernet port makes this slim Acer Aspire 5 laptop perfect. Most 15.6″ laptops these days are sold without the ethernet port, but this one has it. This means you don’t need to be worried about the dropped Wi-Fi connection whenever you run Windows 10 updates.
